New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) – Call for Proposals
August 02, 2011

August 2, 2011
- Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP), the Government of Canada is taking action to enable seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences with others.

The NHSP is a federal Grants and Contributions program that supports projects led or inspired by seniors who make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities.
The Government has made enhancements to the program to allow a broader array of organizations to develop a greater variety of projects that meet the changing needs of communities.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
If you are an organization with an idea for a project that encourages seniors to lead or participate in activities to the benefit of the community, this is important news for you:
On June 20, 2011, the New Horizons for Seniors Program launched a community-based call for proposals for all of Canada, including Quebec, and it will close on September 16, 2011. Funding will support projects that meet one or more of the program’s five program objectives:

  1. 1. Promoting volunteerism among seniors and other generations;
  2. 2. Engaging seniors in the community through the mentoring of others;
  3. 3. Expanding awareness of elder abuse, including financial abuse;
  4. 4. Supporting the social participation and inclusion of seniors; and,
  5. 5. Providing capital assistance for new and existing community projects and/or programs for seniors.

Community-based projects are eligible for grant funding of up to $25,000, for up to one year. Community-based projects support programs and activities for seniors that meet one or more of the program’s five objectives.
